I like chicken. No surprise there. Chicken is my most commonly consumed source of protein. It’s a versatile ingredient that is easily available but there’s one brand I prefer when it comes to my chicken: Farmer Focus.
Many of the chicken recipes on my blog were made using Farmer Focus chicken so I was overjoyed to get an opportunity to collaborate with them on this recipe.
Why I Buy Farmer Focus
With an ingredient like chicken which I purchase pretty regularly, it’s important for me to know where my food is coming from and what type of company I’m supporting.
One of the first things you notice about Farmer Focus when you spot their products at your supermarket is that their chickens are Organic, free range and Certified Humane. But what is most exciting to me about Farmer Focus is that they are 100% farmer-owned.
Their farmer partners are the owners and operators of the process resulting in happier farmers, healthier chickens and better meat on my plate. You can even find out which farmer produced your chicken by locating the Farm ID on their packaging and searching for the farm here. For example, the chicken I used for this recipe came from Wilkins Farm (Farm ID: RWIL) in Baker, West Virginia.
If you value knowing where your meat comes from and how it’s produced then you should appreciate Farmer Focus’ commitment to quality and sustainability.
About This Buttermilk Chicken Recipe
I got the idea for this recipe when a coworker suggested that I marinate my chicken in buttermilk. Before this recipe, I had never had roasted buttermilk soaked chicken. Buttermilk, like yogurt, is a slightly acidic food which makes it great for tenderizing meats. The acid in buttermilk breaks down the protein fibers in chicken without toughening the meat in the way that stronger acids (e.g. lemon juice, vinegar, etc.) would. In terms of flavors, you will love the combination five-spice powder and garlic in this easy chicken dish.
I am really excited for you to try this recipe. I used Farmer Focus chicken drumsticks and thighs, but you can also try this recipe using the Farmer Focus whole young chickens or any of their other fresh bone-in or boneless products. Try this recipe and let me know what you think. I enjoyed it some brown rice and mixed vegetables.
